Jurgen Klopp has revealed he does not expect Thiago Alcantara to play for Liverpool again until after the international break due to a calf injury.
The Spain international suffered the injury in the Premier League win against Crystal Palace at Anfield last weekend, and was subsequently ruled out of the Carabao Cup third-round victory at Norwich on Tuesday.
But Klopp has now revealed that he does not expect to see the 30-year-old former Bayern Munich midfielder play again until October’s international fixtures are out of the way.
Thiago Alcantara will be out of action for Liverpool until after the international break, according to Jurgen Klopp
The Spaniard injured his calf during the Reds’ victory against Crystal Palace last weekend
Speaking about Thiago’s injury ahead of the Reds’ late-kick off at the Brentford Community Stadium on Saturday, Klopp said: ‘It’s not 100 per cent clear. It’s a muscle in the calf.
‘It’s an issue, obviously. After the international break probably. I don’t think it would be anything earlier.’
The former Borussia Dortmund manager also revealed Thiago’s fellow midfielder Naby Keita would also miss the game against Thomas Frank’s men due to a knee injury.
Tthe German insists it is very unlikely the Spaniard will return before October’s internationals
The Guinea midfielder was taken off at half-time as precaution in the Reds’ 3-0 win at Carrow Road in midweek.
And while revealing the knee injury is ‘nothing serious’, Klopp said it remains painful and will see him miss the Brentford match at the very least.
‘[It is] nothing serious but it keeps him out of Brentford, for sure,’ Klopp added.
‘A little longer maybe, we will see. It’s painful and we have to see how he deals with it. It is not cool. He had a good pre-season and played a lot of games but it happens.’
Naby Keita will also miss Saturday’s match at Brentford with a knee injury suffered at Norwich
