Jurgen Klopp has vowed to take the fight to Tottenham on Thursday and challenged his team to reassert themselves as the side ‘nobody wants to play against’.
The defending Premier League champions head to north London down in fifth having hit a difficult run of form, failing to win any of their last five league games.
But Klopp has no doubts in his players as he revealed they will be ‘ready for a fight’ when they go to take on Jose Mourinho’s Spurs side.

Jose Mourinho’s Spurs side host Liverpool in north London on Thursday night in a huge game
‘We will be really annoying and we will fight hard, be positive and be critical with the not so positive things,’ Klopp explained.
‘I take the situation as it is and make sure we are ready for a fight and we will be ready for a fight tomorrow night. We cannot change last month but also I am not only a good weather coach, though.
‘In this world we lose trust and faith far too quick. Either it is great or it is the opposite. but there are so many stages in between.
‘I see them trying, them working, all that stuff and we are working as a team on solutions. It’s a complex game and I love that about football.’
Liverpool were beaten in the FA Cup and are winless in their last five Premier League games
When the two sides met back on December 16, a dramatic late 2-1 victory saw Liverpool leapfrog Spurs to go top of the table.
Mourinho had almost pulled off a superb result on the road at Anfield and could have taken all three points had Harry Kane and Steven Bergwijn converted great chances before Roberto Firmino netted in stoppage time.
The sides now prepare for the return game with Liverpool fifth and Tottenham sixth, a point adrift of the Reds but with a game in hand, and rather than act as a title tussle this is now more focused on the battle for the top four.
‘We will give our absolute everything this season,’ Klopp added.
‘It’s not about defending a title or anything like that. This team has the potential to fight for a title this year certainly but if not we will try next year. With all the difficulties we have we try all we can.’
Criticism of his front three – Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Firmino – has been ever-present in recent weeks amid the barren run of league results.
Liverpool edged out the reverse fixture and Klopp knows Tottenham will fight for revenge
Liverpool have scored just once in their last five league games, Mane netting in the 1-1 home draw with West Brom on December 27.
But for Klopp any failings are as a collective and he is confident his side can again generate a fear factor they held throughout the last two seasons.
‘It is really about being the team we want to be and that team is the one nobody wants to play against,’ the German said.
‘We have the chance to be that team tomorrow night then Sunday, then Wednesday, then again and again. We can still be the best team in the world but we have to prove that again and we will.
‘We have to strike back and the more negative things said about us, the more we want it. That’s the situation we are in.’
