Mum’s the word for Morocco with coach Walid Regragui feted for opening up the team World Cup camp to his players’ families. The King Mohammed VI of Morocco has funded the move to fly out not just WAGs, but parents too, to make the team camp an even happier one.
QPR player Ilias Chair said: “My parents and my wife have come and all the other players have their parents and family members and that gives us great strength.
“If you look at the videos of players after their game with their parents, it is fantastic, it gives us great strength and we will try and use it
“You can see what the coach has done with the players. He created an environment that was like a family and I think he is the best coach in the tournament.
“He is the best possible man to take us as far as possible and it is not only about football, also in life he teaches a lot of things.
“Whenever you have a problem you can go to him and he will be your dad, your big brother. We all wish him the best.”
Characteristically, Regragui tried to deflect the praise back on his squad.
“The credit needs to go to the players,” he said. “I have tried to build a team spirit.
“We had to prepare a team for a tournament in a short period of time, we thought about bringing family members to build team spirit.
“I think we have made the right choices. The players believed in the project, I have found a great bunch of lads who love their country and believe as well.”
