Keys targets Ten Hag in sly rant and tells Man Utd boss where to go

Former Sky Sports host Richard Keys has slammed Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag for his complaint to the Premier League, following the Red Devils’ 2-0 win over Everton on Saturday. Scott McTominay and Anthony Martial got the goals for the hosts, but a worry for United will be Marcus Rashford holding his groin as he limped off the pitch.

Speaking after the game, Ten Hag questioned the league’s scheduling and hit out at the competition for forcing his players to compete in so many consecutive games – perhaps increasing the likelihood of Rashford picking up an injury. Including his five appearances at the World Cup, United’s talisman has played 52 times already this season but he could be set for a spell on the sidelines with a groin issue.

“I can’t say. I am not a doctor,” Ten Hag told BT Sport regarding Rashford’s injury. “We have to wait how bad or how good is. Obviously, he went off with a complaint. We have to wait for it to be diagnosed and then we can see.

“Some things you can’t avoid but this was avoidable. Why was the Premier League giving us the late, late Sunday night game and the early Saturday game? I think it is not right. You run the risk that players can’t recover that quickly. All the science and research tells you the players need a certain period to recover. If it is one game after another, it accumulates.

“We are now finding ourselves in this situation and now we can only pray he [Rashford] is not dropping off. No manager at this stage of the season would rotate so much. It was not necessary to set the schedule like this and from a sporting point of view, we want freshness.”

However, Keys took offence to Ten Hag’s comments and insisted that if he did not like how the league was run, he should consider returning to the Netherlands to work. “Erik, as regards the scheduling and injuries, it’s the English Premier League,” Keys said on his beIN SPORTS show. “If you don’t like it, there is always of course Eredivisie, where you can go and ply your trade.”

United will likely end up playing more games than their rivals this campaign, owing to them going deep in all four competitions.

The Red Devils lifted the Carabao Cup in February, winning six games on their way to the first silverware claimed in the Ten Hag era.

While United have also reached the FA Cup semi-final and the Europa League quarter-final, where they are favourites to reach the finals of both competitions and sees Ten Hag’s outfit faced with a huge amount of games played.
