A goalkeeper announced his ‘retirement’ after scoring a stunning equaliser for his side – eight minutes into added time.
Newhaven were trailing 1-0 at home in their Southern Combination League clash against Little Common having missed a hatful of chances. With defeat looming and going into the 98th minute, the Dockers won a corner with goalkeeper Jake Buss going forward for the set-piece to try and unsettle the visitors’ defence.
After the corner was played short, the ball was whipped into the box, where there was a goalmouth scramble. Little Common looked set to clear the ball, only for Buss to dispossess a dawdling defender.
There still looked to be little on for Buss, who was more than 20 yards from goal, but the stopper steadied himself before thundering a superb effort into the corner of the net, giving his opposite number no chance just as the referee was about to blow for full-time.

After footage of the screamer did the rounds on social media, Buss, 31, took to X (former known as Twitter) to repost a video of the strike and joke: “Like to announce my official retirement from football. You will now catch me every Saturday in the boozer showing this video to anyone that will watch it.”

One fan replied, pointing out: "OMG has anyone noticed that the ref has the whistle to his mouth ready for full time, great strike pal.”
Another toasted: “Class mate! Natural born finisher.” A third added: “You absolutely deserve it too!”

Meanwhile, speaking after the match, Buss told the club’s junior reporter: “It’s a great feeling, I can’t remember the last time [I scored] so I’ll take it.
“It feels like a point gained because of the scenario but we should have won the game with the amount of chances we had. No disrespect to them, they did a job on us.”
