Chris Wilder’s side entered Sunday’s contest with Tottenham riding high having picked up their first league win of the campaign against Newcastle United on Tuesday night.
However, the defensive frailties that have blighted the strugglers rose to the fore once more as Serge Aurier gave the visitors an early lead after five minutes before Harry Kane doubled their tally just before half time.

And Keane ripped into United in a scathing review of Wilder’s side’s first half display and opined that the outlook is bleak for the basement boys.
‘I can’t believe what I’m watching really,’ he said on Sky Sports. ‘The one thing I wouldn’t throw at these players, Sheffield United, you always feel they are a decent group and they’ll have a go, I can’t believe how bad they have been.
‘Obviously a goal down after five minutes, real lack of quality which we know, lack of creativity.

‘You’d think they would be upbeat after the result the other night, but looking at them today and their points total and they could go down as one of the worst teams to ever play in the Premier League.

Graeme Souness echoed the sentiments of his colleague, labelling the Blades and midfielder Oliver Norwood ‘pathetic’ for an unforgivable lack of effort in the build up to Kane’s strike – Tottenham’s second of the afternoon.
‘What about the attempt to get it back? You know what Harry is going to do. What does that challenge say about that team? That should be a really aggressive challenge to get the ball back.

‘You are fighting for your life, you are at the bottom of the league. If that continues, call me old fashioned but if I had done that in a game of football when I played, eight of my team-mates would dig me out at half time.
‘This is a team that can only be effective if they are aggressive in every part of their game. That is pathetic.
‘You are fighting for your lives, you are going to get relegated, you are going to the Championship, people could lose their jobs, you are playing for your team-mates. That is “I have accepted my lot” from Norwood there.’
Sheffield United gave themselves some hope through David McGoldrick’s goal in the 59th minute but Spurs immediately extended their lead again through Tanguy Ndombele’s exquisite lob.
