Liverpool target Karim Adeyemi has opened the door on a switch to Merseyside after admitting he feels “honoured” to be linked with a big-money January transfer. The Red Bull Salzberg striker has already notched 12 goals in just 17 games so far this term.

The Reds were linked with a move for Adeyemi in the summer transfer window, and have reportedly been tracking the teenager for some time.

It’s now anticipated that they could make their move for the 19-year-old in the New Year – but they are set to face competition from a host of European heavyweights.

German giants Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are also keen on the striker, who netted in Salzburg’s 3-1 win over VfL Wolfsburg in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

When quizzed on his future by Sky Austria after the game, Adeyemi said: “I take it easy. I feel honoured. But nothing more. I have my focus here at Salzburg. We play well together. It works perfectly.”

When pushed, the striker added: “First of all, I want to progress with Salzburg. Then we’ll look further.”

According to reports in Germany over the past few weeks, Liverpool have already made contact ahead of a move for the striking sensation.

Although he insisted he’s enjoying his time at Salzburg, Adeyemi stopped short of ruling out a future move away – whether that’s to Anfield or to a different destination.

The Reds could be tempted to steal a march on their rivals by launching an early bid for the striker’s signature in January.

Liverpool are set to lose Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane for the Africa Cup of Nations early in the New Year.

Salah, in particular, has been in scintillating form this season, netting in his last nine consecutive games – leading to many hailing him as the best player in the world.

The absence of that lethal duo would leave Reds boss Jurgen Klopp short of attacking options – even with Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota starting the season in good form.

It remains to be seen, however, if they can lure Adeyemi to the Premier League or if the German international is keen on a switch to the Bundesliga.

Adeyemi’s electric form since bursting onto the scene last year has already catapulted him into Hansi Flick’s plans with the German national team.

And a switch to Bayern or Dortmund could prove more alluring than linking up with Klopp and the Reds – especially given Bayern’s dominance in Germany and Dortmund’s impressive record with youth.
