Kante adored even more by Chelsea fans after reaction to Southampton win spotted
Chelsea fans have been left adoring N'Golo Kante even more than they already did after his reaction to their penalty shootout win over Southampton at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.
Kante sat out the game after experiencing muscle soreness in training in the build-up to Chelsea’s 7-0 demolition of Norwich last Saturday.
The Frenchman attended the match and sat behind the substitutes bench where he was able to provide words of wisdom.
Chelsea opened the scoring shortly before half-time when Kai Havertz guided header from a Hakim Ziyech corner nestled into the bottom of Fraser Forster’s net.
Southampton hit back two minutes in the second-half when forward Che Adams pounced on Kepa Arrizabalaga’s fumble to fire home the equaliser from close range.
The two teams couldn’t be separated in normal time and the game subsequently went to a penalty shootout.
Mason Mount missed for Chelsea, but it didn’t matter as both Theo Walcott and William Smallbone couldn't convert for the Saints, meaning it was the Blues who progressed to the quarter-finals.
And Kante was present on the sidelines, cheering his side on for the duration of the shootout, alongside the substitutes and management staff.
Chelsea fans then took to social media, where one fan said: “The world is happy when N’Golo is happy.”
Another added: “If you’re going to be anything today, BE N’Golo Kante!”

Speaking after the win, Tuchel said: “We had some last-minute changes because three potential starters got injured in training so it was not planned like this and not so many options from the bench.
“We knew it was the first time we played together like this and things would be tough against a team who put so much pressure on you like Southampton and that was the way it was.
“It was a nice match of football, good performances by both teams and a tough match but in the end we win with a penalty shoot-out.”
Kante is expected to recover in time for Chelsea’s trip to St James’ Park to face Newcastle on Saturday.
Tuchel’s side will then travel to Sweden where they will face Malmo in the Champions League three days later.
