Kane torn apart by German media with open letter written to Bayern Munich chief

Could Harry Kane be set for Bayern Munich move?

Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has received a bizarre open letter from a German newspaper imploring them not to spend £100million on Harry Kane. The Bavarian giants have seen an offer of £85m for the striker rejected by Tottenham Hotspur in recent weeks with Spurs holding out for a nine-digit figure.

But Bild newspaper columnist Raimund Hinko, believes this would be an awful waste of money and has let his thoughts be known on the transfer in an article penned on Wednesday. Hinko wrote the opinion piece in a last-ditch effort to keep from what he sees as overspending on an ageing “old bone”.

“Of course, I wish I had never had to write that letter. Perhaps it’s a last-ditch effort to keep you, who watch over the weal and woe of FC Bayern, from spending 100 million or more on a – sorry – 30-year-old bone,” read the opening sentence.

“Although, I apologize again to all players over 30, there are quite a number of mature, experienced professionals who have stayed young, who are in top shape, whose careers are only just beginning at 30.”

He goes on to claim it would take a “miracle” for the Englishman to live up to Robert Lewandowski’s lofty standards and isn’t amused by reports that Spurs are sniffing around Bayern wonderkind Mathys Tel.

“Why the hell are Tottenham now even making fun of FC Bayern and spreading rumours that they want to buy Mathys Tel,” he writes. “You can’t let Tottenham show you up, dear Bayern officials. Don’t ridicule. Who are they from this London suburb anyway? English champions in Stone Age football 62 and 72 years ago.”

But Bayern may not have to fork out £100m after all. BILD report that Kane is desperate to secure a move away from north London this summer and is willing to buy himself out of the final year of his contract.

Kane earns £200,000 a week with Spurs and so will need to pay a fee in the region of £20m to break free of the deal. Tottenham have a gentleman’s agreement with Kane that they will green-light a move to a team outside of the Premier League if their valuation is met for the player.

Though that valuation is proving to be a sticking point in negotiations. It is understood Bayern will go in with an improved offer in the coming days, whether it will match Spurs’ £100m asking price is unclear.

Tottenham’s new all-white kit doesn’t deviate from the traditional Spurs style. The fresh look for the 2023/2024 season features navy cuffs and a pattern that runs throughout the kit that is said to be inspired by the music scene and eclectic streetwear of the Tottenham
