Kane picks between Man Utd and Chelsea as Glazers set maximum transfer price

Five potential transfer destinations for Harry Kane

Harry Kane  has made his mind up on where he wants to play next season amid interest from both Manchester United and Chelsea in signing the Tottenham star. The England captain has a year left on his current deal in north London and Spurs are running the risk of letting him leave for free if they cannot convince him to pledge his long-term future to the club, with United warning they will not break the bank for the striker.

The situation has prompted links to United as Erik ten Hag is keen to bring a marquee striker to Old Trafford, with the 29-year-old seen as the perfect option after bagging 30 Premier League goals last season. However, United pulled out of any negotiations owing to financial concerns as they were unwilling to meet Spurs’ high asking price for the striker amid their ongoing takeover uncertainty.

Chelsea also hold a vested interest in Kane and have the chance to reunite him with Mauricio Pochettino, while also fixing their long-term issues at the top of the pitch. He would not have to move out of London if he swapped Spurs for the Blues, though his current transfer stance indicates that a Stamford Bridge transfer is unlikely.

The Daily Mail have claimed that Kane still hopes that United will re-open negotiations to sign him after Spurs chief Daniel Levy demanded £100million for his striker, despite having just a year left on his contract.

Chelsea may have more financial power than United this summer and are set to raise over £100m with the impending sales of Kai Havertz, Mateo Kovacic, Hakim Ziyech, Kalidou Koulibaly and Edouard Mendy. But Kane has made it clear that his preference is to head to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have reportedly made it clear that a price closer to £80m could see them revive talks with Spurs once again, having grown frustrated at their inability to land a top striker for Erik ten Hag – with the likes of Victor Osimhen and Rasmus Hojlund similarly priced higher than club chiefs had initially expected.

Kane hopes that Levy will consider letting him leave this summer as opposed to losing out on £80m by keeping him another year, though it seems unlikely that Spurs will relent and instead will try to convince him to extend his contract after a year of playing under new boss Ange Postecoglu.

United are reluctant to spend months negotiating with Levy as their rivals Manchester City did two years ago, only to fail in their attempts to convince the Spurs chief to budge on his asking price, as money tied up in talks for Kane could impact further signings in other areas.

United are hoping to strike a deal with Chelsea for Mason Mount and have a defender on their transfer wishlist, with the latest target being Inter Milan’s Federico Dimarco, in addition to a striker and David De Gea’s potential replacement in goal.
