Kane mocked after poor derby display as league goal drought goes on

‘Rejecting over £100million for Harry Kane might just be the most Spursy thing Spurs have ever done’: Fans lay into Tottenham star who surely ‘can’t sulk all season’ after lacklustre display in derby defeat at Arsenal

  • Three first-half goals put Arsenal out of sight as the Gunners beat Tottenham 3-1
  • Harry Kane hasn’t scored in the Premier League since saying he wants to leave
  • The 28-year-old had fewer completed passes and touches than Aaron Ramsdale
  • He also missed a glorious chance and assisted the Gunners for their third goal

Harry Kane has been lambasted for his anonymous display as Tottenham lost 3-1 to Arsenal at the Emirates.

Emile Smith Rowe, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bukayo Saka put Arsenal in dreamland at half-time before Son Heung-min bagged what proved to be a consolation on 79 minutes.

On the final whistle, fans were quick to rib the out-of-form striker, who hasn’t scored yet in the Premier League since expressing his desire to leave the north London club for champions Manchester City over the summer.

Kane is still searching for his Premier League strike of the season after a difficult afternoon

Liverpool fan Grizz Khan tweeted: ‘Rejecting over £100 mill for Harry Kane might just be the most spursy thing spurs have done.’

Presenter and YouTuber VUJ said: ‘Kane and Tottenham basically kept the relationship going for the kids, but now it’s all gone stale and everything feels like a chore. Peak.’

Arsenal had much to thank Kane for when they opened up a 3-0 lead as last season’s Golden Boot winner slipped over deep in opposition territory to lose possession as Thomas Partey came in to set the hosts away.

Kane ran back to deal with the situation, but proved more of a hindrance than a help to his team-mates as his slide tackle inadvertently pushed the ball past Eric Dier and into a pocket of space as the England winger steadied himself before firing past Hugo Lloris.

Twitter user Bavarian was quick to make light of that incident, crowing: ‘Harry Kane assisting Saka to score against Tottenham to make him feel good after the penalty miss in Euro 2020. What a true captain’, with Matt Waite wrote: ‘I’m not sure City would want *this* Harry Kane’.

There were also questions about Kane’s attitude, with Nigel saying: ‘Harry Kane needs to get on with it. You can’t sulk all season’.

Lyes feels Tottenham’s lack of forward thinking has cost them, with Daniel Levy’s refusal to offload Kane being just one example.

‘Spurs should’ve swallowed their pride, taken the cash on Kane, rebuilt the side and hired Graham Potter, instead they chose to be unserious and hire Mourinho’s old back up goalkeeper,’ he said.

Kane’s overall stats were also cause for concern as he made just five completed passes and had only 24 touches, comfortably fewer than Aaron Ramsdale (24 and 43 respectively).

On top of that, Kane completed no dribbles or key passes when just one of his five ground duels and lost possession 10 times.

The 28-year-old’s next opportunity to open his league account this term is at home to Aston Villa next Saturday as Nuno Espirito Santo’s men look to haul themselves back above their local rivals and into the top half once more.
