Kai Havertz took home the plaudits following his best performance in a Chelsea shirt against Everton on Monday night, with Eni Aluko, Faye White and Gary Lineker all singing his praises.

Havertz has struggled to live up to expectations since his £89million summer move from Bayer Leverkusen, failing to make any real impact going forward for the club.

But on Monday, Havertz was the star of the show as he played an instrumental role in both Chelsea’s goals of their 2-0 win, with his strike deflecting off Ben Godfrey for his side’s first before winning a penalty which Jorginho duly converted.

And Aluko insisted that Havertz – who also had a goal chalked off for handball – has given Tuchel a welcome selection headache after dictating the tempo at Stamford Bridge on Monday.

‘Havertz was involved in everything good tonight,’ Aluko told BT Sport. ‘His movement was very good.

‘It was a good start from Chelsea, and from then on to be honest, Havertz’ movement, and (Timo) Werner in those little 10 pockets, they really started to dictate the game, particularly in the second half.’

Then after being asked whether he had taken his opportunity, Aluko added: ‘Yeah he had to. We said before the game we don’t know what his best position is. Is it number 10, is it off the wing. is it as a false nine.

Eni Aluko and Faye White sung the praises of Havertz following the final whistle on Monday

‘But today he was getting into those little pockets, linking up with Werner, just really clever play. I think he has given (Thomas) Tuchel a lot to think about. You have people like (Olivier) Giroud on the bench as well, who has done very well this season.

‘There is a lot of competition for places up front. Werner today should have scored, he has to get in on the goals as well, but a lot of good competition up front for Chelsea, which is healthy.’

Aluko’s fellow pundit, White, was also singing the praises of the German forward following his starring role in west London.

White added: ‘Havertz grew into the game, second half he started to come off and get possession deep, and then spin off and link up the play really well.

‘He has shown in flashes what he can do today. He is a big player who has come with a big price tag. He had a good performance with the way he linked up. You saw him all over the areas of the field, and he needed that. Today he has come on and performed.’

Gary Lineker hailed Havertz after his starring role, claiming he has an ‘abundance of talent’

And those watching on from home were also left in awe of Havertz’ performance at Stamford Bridge, with Lineker showing recognition to the Germany international.

Lineker took to Twitter to heap praise on the 21-year-old, writing: ‘This is comfortably Kai Havertz’ best game in a Chelsea shirt. A glimpse of the obvious abundance of talent he possesses.’

Havertz will be desperate to kick on now at Chelsea following a very tough start to life in London, having scored just five times and created only six assists in 28 matches across all competitions.

Havertz will be looking to get another chance to show his worth from the start when Chelsea travel to Leeds in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
