Jurrien Timber was forced off 50 minutes into his Premier League debut for Arsenal, after pulling up off the ball with an issue in his right leg.

The Dutch defender joined the Gunners this summer from Ajax for £40.5m, but had to be taken off during the home match against Nottingham Forest, when he was replaced by Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Arsenal were leading the game 2-0 at the time, with first-half goals from Eddie Nketiah and Bukayo Saka putting the hosts in charge at the Emirates after kick-off was delayed by 30 minutes due to turnstile issues.

Timber was left wincing after a poor challenge on Forest’s Brennan Johnson at the tail end of the first half, when he was shown a yellow card.

He received treatment then, and was briefly reintroduced before the half-time break. While he came out for the second half, he only lasted a few minutes before pulling up with the injury.

Timber was Mikel Arteta’s second summer signing when he was brought into the squad in July. Other incoming stars to the Emirates this year include Declan Rice from West Ham and Kai Havertz from Chelsea.

The 22-year-old was signed for his versatility in defence, although he started Saturday’s game against Nottingham Forest at right-back.

Last season, he made 47 appearances for Ajax across all competitions and scored two goals. He also has 15 national team caps since making his debut in 2021.
