Jurgen Klopp’s stance on Paul Pogba gives clue about Liverpool’s Mbappe plans
Liverpool have been linked with a mega-money move to sign Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain this summer, but Jurgen Klopp’s previous comments suggest a deal is unlikely.
Mbappe is out of contract at the Parc des Princes in 2022, and will have to be sold this summer in order to prevent PSG from losing him for free.
The Frenchman has apparently told the club that he wants a move away in the summer, four years after his £166million move from AS Monaco.
PSG want him to stay, but could well be forced into selling if he remains reluctant to sign a new deal.
Liverpool are believed to be interested, with Klopp eyeing him up as a future replacement for either Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane, with both previously linked with moves away.
But speaking back in 2016 after Paul Pogba signed for Manchester United in an £89m move, Klopp gave an indication over his feelings towards paying more than £100m for a player, expressing doubts that they’ll ever sign Mbappe.
“If you bring one player in for £100m and he gets injured, then it all goes through the chimney,” he previously said.

“The day that this is football, I'm not in a job anymore, because the game is about playing together.
“That is how everybody in football understands it. You always want to have the best, but building the group is necessary to be successful.
“Other clubs can go out and spend more money and collect top players.
“I want to do it differently. I would even do it differently if I could spend that money.
“I don't know exactly how much money we could spend because nobody has told me, 'No, you can't do this.'
“If I spend money, it is because I am trying to build a team, a real team. Barcelona did it. You can win championships, you can win titles, but there is a manner in which you want it.”
