Jurgen Klopp told two Liverpool stars who will benefit most from Erling Haaland
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been backed to make a blockbuster bid to sign Erling Haaland due to the impact it would have on Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson.
The Premier League champions have been tipped to be one of the teams interested in the Borussia Dortmund wonderkid amid speculation he will move on this summer.
Due to a £68million release clause in his contract, which will be active from 2022 onwards, it has been suggested that he could be sold this summer in order to receive a higher transfer fee.
And former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique believes the Reds need to break the bank for Haaland, and explained the impact he would have on the rest of the team.
He singled out the two full-backs – Robertson and Alexander-Arnold – as the two players who would benefit the most from the arrival of the tall striker.
"We need a no.9 in the summer," he explained to Empire of the Kop.
"My choice is Erling Haaland. We can rule out Kylian Mbappe – he’ll be too expensive. But I think Haaland is possible.
"He’s so good in the air – he’s a beast. Can you imagine Trent and Robbo crossing balls into the box for Haaland? Wow! They would get another 20 assists each per season.
"He’d be another dimension for us and is the kind of player we should be going for.
"Haaland might cost £100m, but we spent £75m on Van Dijk and that’s what it takes."
Enrique also discussed Manchester City's likely plans for the upcoming transfer window, with Pep Guardiola set to go all-out for a new centre-forward.
Sergio Aguero seems likely to depart at the end of his contract, and the former Liverpool defender explained that Reds will have to keep up with City's spending.
He added: "You can guarantee City will spend £100m-odd on the striker who replaces Aguero… If you think about it, the only one of our forwards who’s good in the air is Mane – so a striker like Haaland would be my priority this summer.
