Jurgen Klopp picks out Liverpool sub for praise in hard-fought win at Norwich
Liverpool had to come from behind to beat Norwich City 3-1 at Anfield on Saturday afternoon and Jurgen Klopp picked out Thiago Alcantara for coming off the bench and helping to make the difference.
The Reds were runaway favourites to win the match, and although they ended up doing just that, it did not look comfortable for them when Milot Rashica opened the scoring shortly after half-time to put the Canaries ahead.
However, there was no panic from Liverpool, with Klopp bringing on Thiago and Divock Origi on 62 minutes and just five minutes later they were ahead.
Sadio Mane equalised before Mohamed Salah put the Reds ahead, then Luis Diaz wrapped things up with 10 minutes to play.
He may not have been one of the three Reds to get on the scoresheet, but it was Thiago who Klopp singled out for praise after the contest.
‘We had moments and then the game can look completely different, then a deflected ball can be pretty decisive, but these boys just don’t give up, we could help from the bench, bringing really good players on and that was like three days ago the game changer,’ Klopp told the BBC.
‘We played really good football and scored wonderful goals. The coaching team, we changed the system as well, go for 4-4-2 and that is necessary in a moment like this that you throw all the knowledge you have together – it gave them a proper challenge to deal with because all of a sudden we were a threat in all moments.
‘Thiago with his passing, really fresh, really relaxed, full of confidence, that helped as well. He is a good player, we just have to make sure we can keep him fit.’
The three goal-scorers made up Liverpool’s front three against Norwich, with Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino out injured and Klopp admitted he does not know when either the Portuguese or the Brazilian will be available again.
‘Diogo (Jota) was not available and we don’t know how long it will take,’ said Klopp. ‘Bobby Firmino has a muscle problem and is out for a while, so we have to keep the boys fit and create a spirit like the boys did today in the game.’
