Jurgen Klopp makes top four promise as he assesses Chelsea threat

Jurgen Klopp insists Liverpool will continue to fight for the top four having seen how quickly things can change.

The Reds beat Sheffield United on Sunday to snap a four-match losing streak.

Those consecutive reverses had seen plenty of people question whether the defending champions would even make the top four.

But their latest win means they are just two points off West Ham in fourth.

Chelsea, whom they host on Thursday night, sit a point above them in fifth having improved massively since Thomas Tuchel's arrival.

Klopp knows all too well what is required of his team as he focuses on the challenge ahead.

He said: "A week ago we were out [the top 4 race] now we're around it again. Challenge is clear – to win games. We've known that.

"We cannot make a difference who we face but we know Chelsea's quality. Other teams, our neighbours, Spurs, West Ham, Leicester…[want top 4]."

"This is exciting for our fans but maybe not how they would like it. We will fight for it."

Liverpool have already played top four rivals West Ham, Tottenham and Everton twice this season.

They beat Chelsea earlier in the season at Stamford Bridge and will be looking to do the double over them for the second straight year.

Tuchel is yet to lose as Blues boss and Klopp is very aware of the qualities they possess.

He said: "In the game Chelsea played so far (under Tuchel) they have been successful. Different formations, he's used the time to get to know the squad.

"Lots of changes. All 3 left-backs have played. Only Mount, Kovacic, Jorginho are fixed. All others have changed for information."
