Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has suggested he’s happy with FSG’s transfer strategy, despite the club’s low net spend throughout his tenure. Klopp believes the atmosphere within a tight-knit squad is more important than being consistently active in the transfer market.
Liverpool fans have been widely critical of the club’s owners while their Premier League rivals outspend them yearly.
The Reds have spent around £512million since Klopp arrived at the helm in 2015.
But approximately £374m in player sales during that period produces a net spend of just £138m – a minuscule figure compared to other top-flight heavyweights like Manchester City and Manchester United.
But Klopp doesn’t appear to be interested in changing how the club operates as Liverpool pursue a second Premier League title this season.

Klopp has made a case to support FSG’s transfer strategy by stressing the importance of managing his squad size for a successful season.
He told reporters: “You go now back again to the transfer business or whatever; it’s always a mix of what you want, what you can get, stuff like this.
“I think that in life it’s really important that you stay calm when everybody is really excited, and that’s what we try to do – to try to make the right decision in these moments. We are happy with the squad we have, but we have a lot of problems at the moment.

“Midfield players out, we had eight midfield players when the season started – now around about four at the moment, so it’s not too cool. But there are always problems; we just have to try to sort them.
“I don’t know a solution for these kinds of problems which you can buy in the transfer window, you say, ‘OK, another four or five players and you will never have that problem again.’
“But you can never have the atmosphere in the squad, which is much more important. To win something with a squad with 40 players, that’s just not possible because we have to keep the players happy.

“I’m not sure if it’s the right saying – but the players need to see they have a chance to get into the team if they perform on their highest level.
“With 40 players, that’s obviously not the case – and that’s probably the only solution for injury crises when you have that amount players, so we cannot sort that.
“That means you have to take what you get, you use what you get or got and then play the best possible football.”
Liverpool will look to continue their impressive season when they host Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday afternoon.
