Jurgen Klopp eyes Dortmund raid for Mohamed Salah replacement Donyell Malen
Jurgen Klopp praises Mohamed Salah after 200th goal in English football
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is said to be eyeing up a deal to sign Borussia Dortmund ace Donyell Malen two-and-a-half years after the winger snubbed the Reds to join the German giants. Klopp could be in the market for a Mohamed Salah replacement, with the Egypt attacker being heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia next summer.
Liverpool signed Salah from Roma in 2017 after he had impressed in Serie A. And the 31-year-old has helped his current employers win the Premier League, Champions League, Club World Cup, FA Cup and Carabao Cup during his time at Anfield after bagging 198 goals and 84 assists in 323 appearances.
Salah was the subject of a £150million bid from Al-Ittihad at the end of the summer transfer window, with Liverpool clinging onto the blockbuster star after turning the offer down. But the Saudi club are expected to return with another offer for the ex-Chelsea player next year – and Liverpool may be tempted to sanction the transfer as the goal machine will turn 32 at the end of the campaign and will be entering the final year of his contract.
If Salah does head for the Anfield exit, Klopp will be desperate to replace the ace with someone who can hit the ground running. And according to Sport Bild, Liverpool remain interested in Malen.

The 24-year-old, who spent two years in the Arsenal academy between 2015 and 2017, joined Dortmund in the summer of 2021 following a four-year spell at PSV. During his time at the Philips Stadium, the star bagged 55 goals and 24 assists in 116 matches. And Klopp chased the player’s signature while he was still plying his trade in his homeland.
Malen has underwhelmed for large parts of his Dortmund career and endured a run of 11 games without a goal after a blistering start to the current campaign. He has found the back of the net just 24 times in 91 appearances on top of 16 assists for his current side. But the 28-time capped Netherlands international clearly possesses bags of talent and could be available for a cut-price fee following his struggles at Signal Iduna Park.

Malen has recently parted with Mino Raiola heiress Rafaela Pimenta to link up with Dutch agency SEG. And with all Dortmund-related posts disappearing from his Instagram account recently, speculation has been rife that he will depart the club.
Klopp is continuing to watch Malen closely. And the German may well pounce if Salah does indeed quit Anfield next year.
