Jurgen Klopp confirms personal news as Liverpool boss hails ‘perfect summer’
Inside Liverpool's pre-season plans
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has shared the great news of becoming a grandparent this summer after his step-son Dennis became a father for the first time. The German boss labelled the time spent with his new family member as the ‘perfect summer’, and feels that he aesthetically fits the bill of being a grandad.
Klopp has never shied away from talking about the importance of his loved ones in interviews since heading to Anfield in 2015, whilst also developing a family-like culture at the club itself with the help of his backroom team.
Liverpool have been busy in the summer transfer window so far, welcoming the arrivals of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai to bolster their midfield ranks.
However, Klopp has been occupied away from the footballing sphere with his stepson Dennis and his new family. Following an interview with the Liverpool club site about the upcoming 2023/24 season, the ex-Dortmund manager was asked about how life is as a grandad, to which he replied: “Finally. I already look like one and now I am one, it’s cool. No, it’s perfect. Absolutely perfect summer.

“We both thought it was a blessing that we could be around for about four weeks, seeing him growing and all these kinds of things, going through all the first phases. Yes, only staying on the sideline, but being involved anyway.
“So, it was really good. And everything is good. Mum is good, Dad is good and baby is good as well. It’s long ago that we were in that role, to be honest. But I can tell you, it’s like riding a bike. You don’t lose it so it was there immediately.

“Again, it’s just beautiful. The most beautiful thing I experienced probably in the last 30-odd years. And to welcome such a little wonderful human being.” The 56-year-old was visibly ecstatic about becoming a grandparent, and it remains to be seen whether he can lure his grandson into the world of football thanks to his credentials.
Klopp and his second wife Ulla Sandrock – who was key in convincing the Liverpool manager to sign a new contract in Merseyside previously – have no children together but both have sons from their respective first marriages. Dennis is Sandrock’s son, though he reportedly gets along well with Klopp and his son, Marc Klopp – who was a professional footballer for Borussia Dortmund before being forced to retire in 2015 due to recurring injuries preventing him from ever returning to full fitness.
