Jurgen Klopp can smoke or vape in Liverpool office as new contract shows freedom
Most people associated with Liverpool couldn't imagine a logical reason Jurgen Klopp would ever want to leave the club.
Klopp is leading a team he's built to dominate football towards of a historical quadruple haul of trophies. He's ended Liverpool's three decade wait to be crowned English champions again, won them a sixth European Cup and has the freedom of the place to do what he wants.
If he wants to smoke or vape in his office he can. The statue is being commissioned. He can walk on water. So it comes as no surprise that Liverpool bosses have now tied him down to a longer deal that will keep Klopp at Anfield until 2026.
FSG president Mike Gordon was at Anfield this week for the first leg of the Champions League semi final clash with Villarreal and saw Klopp mastermind a comfortable 2-0 win. Also in the stands was Klopp's trusted agent Marc Kosicke – and talks to secure the German's long term future will have been short but sweet.
Klopp is now masterminding greatness at one of football's true institutions and has the same thirst for success as his biggest rival, Pep Guardiola. You get the feeling he's the sort of bloke who is never satisfied, no matter how much success he has. Would a quadruple fulfil him? Probably not. And why would he ever consider walking away from something so good, leaving a team he's worked so hard to create to someone else, when more glories are in the offing?
It doesn't make sense. His battle with Guardiola is one for the ages and is bringing out the best in him. Where else would he find that same intense rivalry? Klopp will believe the current ride his side are on is just the beginning of something special and not the end. He will be excited about the future as much as the present. Life after Liverpool? Don't be daft. Talk sense, man.

But could there be, or should there be? How does Klopp top a quadruple should Liverpool achieve the unthinkable in the coming weeks? He doesn't. There would be little left to achieve, other than adding to the haul. And when his new deal runs out Klopp will have spent more than a decade at Anfield, his longest stint as a club boss. Whisper it, but he could have gone stale before then to find himself in need of a fresh challenge.
Let's not forget Klopp is still human, despite what some think. He's spent a long time away from his homeland, lost a parent to Covid 19 during the pandemic and could choose to work anywhere he wanted. He's one of the greatest coaches in the world. His running mate Guardiola will have left English football by then, too, depriving him of some of the fuel that continues to light his fire within. English football would be a much poorer place without Klopp and football lovers should want to see him remain at Liverpool for as long as possible.
But some people refuse to look past the end of their noses and would consider it a crime for Klopp to ever think about turning his back on something so good. Yet the genuine offence would be if Klopp didn't want to manage at somewhere like Real Madrid, Barcelona or Paris Saint Germain in the future. To sample new cultures, challenges and ways of playing. Then we'd get to find out if he is really is the genius most people consider him to be.
