Julian Brandt to Arsenal January transfer ‘really difficult’ with Dortmund to block move
Arsenal will find it “really, really difficult” to sign Julian Brandt from Borussia Dortmund in the January transfer window reckons transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The German club are highly unlikely to be willing to part ways with the German international this month although he is not a guaranteed starter each week.
The versatile 24-year-old forward has only started six of Dortmund’s 15 Bundesliga matches this season and has only one goal and one assist in 23 games across all competitions.
Brandt, who only joined Dortmund from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2019 for around £22.5million, has plenty of competition for places in North Rhine-Westphalia against the likes of Marco Reus, Jadon Sancho, Gio Reyna, Thorgan Hazard and the on-loan Reinier.
Football.london say the German is determined to fight for his place at Dortmund but could be interested in a loan move to north London.
Yet Romano insists Dortmund are unlikely to let Brandt go as they look to end Bayern Munich’s eight-year monopoly of Germany’s top flight.

Speaking to AFTV, Romano said: “He’s been scouted for sure and he’s a player appreciated by Arsenal. This is true.
“But I’ve never been told that Dortmund were ready to sell him immediately in January. Their policy is always to keep the squad in January and sell players during the summer.
“It’s typical of German clubs and of Dortmund, they hate to sell players in January. So I think it would be really difficult to sign this player.
“It was already difficult and now with the injury of Axel Witsel in midfield for Dortmund, to sell Brandt would be really, really difficult.
“Arsenal needs to go with an important bid to talk to Dortmund but I’m told it’s not easy.
“I’d say it’s one of the most complicated options they have and I don’t see Brandt moving to Arsenal in January.
“Never say never in the market but in the moment he’s not a real option for Arsenal because Dortmund want to keep him in January and also after the injury of Witsel probably they will.”
Romano meanwhile says Norwich playmaker Emiliano Buendia is being closely watched by the Gunners but that a final decision has yet to be made over a potential move this month.
He added: “He’s one of the options. There has been contact with his agents in the last weeks, Arsenal making some enquiry with many agents as they look for a quality midfielder.
“It’s difficult in this market to go for example to Lyon and spend €60m or €50m to sign [Houssem] Aouar. It’s so difficult to do this kind of move.
“They were talking with the agent of Emi Buendia. They are interested in Buendia but it’s not sure he will be the perfect player.
“They will decide after selling players, the best option they have, they will go for it. For sure Buendia is part of the list.

“He’s a skilful player, a quality midfielder, he’s perfect for what they’re looking for but I’m not sure yet that they will go for him.
“It’s normal for a top club like Arsenal to go to many agents and to be ready, particularly when talking about a quick market like January, you have 10 days or 15 days to decide about your targets.
“They’re talking with many agents for many opportunities and Buendia is one of the chances.
“But also Norwich want to keep the player so it won’t be so easy. It’s absolutely normal to wait a bit in this situation.”
