Jules Kounde’s Chelsea feelings emerge as Blues ‘take the lead’ in transfer race

Sevilla defender Jules Kounde has let his feelings known about a move to Chelsea.

The Blues are reportedly in advanced talks to sign the 22-year-old centre-half, with Kurt Zouma potentially moving the other way.

Kounde moved to the Spanish side two years ago and has gone on to establish himself as one of Europe's best young defenders, attracting interest from Manchester United and Chelsea.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side had been linked with a move for the Frenchman since January, but now have their sights set on Raphael Varane, allowing the Blues to swoop in for Kounde.

And according to reports in Spain, the centre-back is more than happy with current developments.

Marca claim the west Londoners have 'taken the lead' to sign Kounde and the 'player is delighted' with this.

Thomas Tuchel is keen to strengthen his defence as Chelsea aim to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title.

Including Zouma, the Blues have only four centre-half options; Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger and Thiago Silva.

Christensen was used sparingly by Tuchel towards the end of last season, while doubts remain over Rudiger's contract situation.

Silva, though world class, will turn 37 in September.

It leaves Chelsea requiring more options at the back, and Kounde would be an ideal candidate given his quality and potential.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the Blues are in advanced talks with Sevilla over a deal have already agreed personal terms with the Frenchman until 2026.

Kounde is under contract with the La Liga club until 2024, which means a deal will not come cheap.

It is believed Sevilla do not want to sell for anything less than £60million.

That shouldn't be too much of a problem for Chelsea, who are reportedly prepared to spend big after Tuchel won the Champions League last season.

The Blues are unlikely to push the boat out quite as much as last season, when they spent over £200million on the likes of Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz, but potential remains for a number of key summer arrivals.
