Julen Lopetegui confirms Diego Costa will be out for up to FOUR weeks
Injury woe for Wolves as Julen Lopetegui confirms Diego Costa will be out for up to FOUR weeks following the knee injury suffered in last week’s win over Spurs
- Wolves’ Diego Costa set to be sidelined for up to a month with a knee injury
- The striker went off with the injury during Wolves’ win over Spurs last weekend
- Costa is yet to register a goal or an assist for the club in sixteen appearances
Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Diego Costa could be out of action for a month with a knee injury Julen Lopetegui has confirmed.
Costa, who joined Wolves in September, only lasted 28 minutes of Wolves’ win over Tottenham last weekend and had to be substituted thanks to the injury.
The 34-year-old will miss Wolves’ trip to Newcastle this weekend and is set to be sidelined for 2-4 weeks.
Speaking ahead of the Newcastle clash on Sunday, Lopetegui said: ‘Diego Costa will be out. He suffered an injury in the last match.
Fortunately, it is not a severe injury but he will be out for, I don’t know, maybe two, three or four weeks.’
Wolves will be without Diego Costa for up to a month with the knee injury suffered last week
Julen Lopetegui confirmed that the striker will be unavailable for the next few weeks
Costa has made 16 appearances for the club so far this season, but is yet to register a goal or an assist for Lopetegui’s men.
He is part of a Wolves’ frontline that combined, has failed to score for Wolves for over a year. Raul Jimenez’s strike in the 4-0 win over Watford in March 2022, was the last time a striker was on target for the midlands club.
Since then Jimenez has failed to hit the back of the net in 19 Premier League games, Fabio Silva has spent most of the campaign on loan, while summer signing Sasa Kalajdzic only lasted 45 minutes of his debut before injury ruled him out of the campaign.
Lopetegui did bolster his strike force in January with the signing of Matheus Cunha, but the Brazilian is waiting for his first goal for the club, too.
As well as Costa, Wolves will check on the fitness of midfielder Boubacar Traore and forward Hwang Hee-chan before Sunday. Traore has been out since November with a groin injury and Hwang has missed a month with a hamstring issue.
Wolves are currently 13th in the Premier League after last weekend’s victory over Spurs, five points off the bottom three.
