Manchester United icon Rio Ferdinand has snubbed Liverpool in favour of Manchester City in his prediction for where Jude Bellingham will end up next summer. Bellingham put in a man-of-the-match display for England in their brilliant 3-0 win over Senegal to reach the World Cup quarter-finals.
The 19-year-old bossed the midfield and showcased his talents on both ends of the pitch in helping set up two of England’s goals. Borussia Dortmund face a fight on their hands to keep him at the club next summer with European’s elite circling for his signature.
Liverpool and Real Madrid have been tipped as the favourites, but City are also said to be in the mix. Ferdinand sang Bellingham’s praises following the midfielder’s display against Senegal, stating he had never seen a player of that age come into a World Cup and dominate on both ends of the pitch.
The topic then moved onto where Bellingham’s next move could be with Ferdinand left questioning how expensive a move for the teenager will be. But the former United defender believes City will win the race for his signature next summer to help Pep Guardiola win the Champions League, link up with several of his England team-mates and use them as a stepping stone to join Real Madrid.
“Pep Guardiola has just signed a new deal and, especially if they don’t win the Champions League this year, he [Bellingham] goes there with the mindset ‘I am going to be the man that brings you the Champions League’,” Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel. “That’s how I think he’s moving. That’s how I think he rolls.
“I think he will [join City]. I just think he’ll say ‘I’ve got a couple of mates there – English boys, I’m an English lad. I can go Madrid in five years’.” He added: “There’s no rush.
“I just think he thinks ‘listen, I’m a superstar. I want to go and win the [Champions] League and the Premier League because I’m an English-born boy and then I’ll go Madrid and do the same there in a few years.
“The mad thing is he’s got the choice. The great thing is he has the absolute choice and the pick of what he wants to do. There will clubs queueing him up, we know that.”
