Jose Mourinho's days at Roma could be numbered after bosses dragged him in for showdown talks following his side's 4-3 defeat to Juventus over the weekend.

Roma are sixth in Serie A and are already 17 points behind league leaders Inter Milan in what is now the club's worst start to a domestic season in 43 years.

Pressure is beginning to mount on the former Tottenham Hotspur boss, particularly after Roma's capitulation on Sunday, having lead the game 3-1 with 20 minutes to go.

Mourinho slaughtered his players in his post-match interview, accusing them of being mentally "weak" and "lacking personality" after Juventus scored three times in seven minutes to flip the match on its head.

"It was so good for 70 minutes, then there was this psychological collapse," he said.

"The fear set in. A psychological complex. It's not a problem for me having 3-2, it's a problem for them. For my team.

"At the end of the day, when you’re in the s***, you get back on your feet and find your character.

"There are people in this locker room who are a bit too nice, a bit too weak."

The outburst was reminiscent of the Portuguese manager's final few months at Tottenham, Manchester United and Chelsea, where he looked to throw players under the bus when results went awry.

The defeat was his side's ninth in 21 league matches so far and Roma are eight points worse off than they were at this stage last season under Paulo Fonseca.

According to Football Italia, club chiefs have no intention of sacking Mourinho, despite meeting with him on Monday to discuss his progress, as well as his vision for the team.

The Special One is reportedly well liked in the Roma squad, who are "fascinated" by his charisma, in spite of his spiky post-match interviews.
