Jose Mourinho sacked LIVE: Tottenham to release statement after firing manager
Jose Mourinho has been sacked as manager of Tottenham Hotspur. The Portuguese leaves just six days before the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City and with the club seventh in the Premier League table. Spurs drew 2-2 with Everton on Friday in a damaging blow to their hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League. The result came alongside an injury to Harry Kane, who is a doubt for Sunday’s Wembley final.
Mourinho arrived at Spurs in November 2019 and succeeded Maurico Pochettino in north London. He signed a contract keeping him at the club until 2023. After a difficult first season that was hit by injuries and disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic, Mourinho led Spurs to the top of the Premier League table last November with a 2-0 win over Manchester City. The club were tipped for a title challenge but it faltered over Christmas and into the New Year following a dismal run of form that saw them drop out of the top four. Spurs were also knocked out of the Europa League in embarrassing fashion after losing 3-0 to Dinamo Zagreb.
Mourinho has now been sacked from his last three clubs in the Premier League, following spells at Chelsea and Manchester United.

SPURS STATEMENT
“The Club can today announce that Jose Mourinho and his coaching staff Joao Sacramento, Nuno Santos, Carlos Lalin and Giovanni Cerra have been relieved of their duties.
“Chairman, Daniel Levy, said: ‘Jose and his coaching staff have been with us through some of our most challenging times as a Club. Jose is a true professional who showed enormous resilience during the pandemic. On a personal level I have enjoyed working with him and regret that things have not worked out as we both had envisaged. He will always be welcome here and we should like to thank him and his coaching staff for their contribution.’
“Ryan Mason will take First Team training today and a further update will follow in due course.”
Mourinho’s final match at Spurs was Friday’s 2-2 draw with Everton, and it was a result that followed a familiar pattern this season. Tottenham led through Harry Kane but were pegged back at Goodison Park, before Kane rescued a point late on. It came after Spurs squandered a 1-0 lead against Manchester United the previous weekend. Spurs have dropped 20 points from winning positions this season.
