Jose Mourinho now holds the same record in England and Italy after Roma run

When Henrikh Mkhitaryan found the net for Jose Mourinho'sRoma – to put the Giallorossi two goals ahead of Empoli – it cemented the Special One's place in Serie A history.

Mourinho has now overseen 42 unbeaten home games in a row in the Serie A, a run that started with his Inter Milan side in 2008.

The 58-year-old surpassed Massimiliano Allegri record at Juventus – that spanned from September 2015 and September 2017.

Mourinho already held the same record in England, thanks to his spell at Chelsea between 2004 and 2007.

And the Special One has now added the Italian record to his glistening CV.

Mourinho is no stranger to going on long unbeaten runs.

Incredibly, Mourinho once staged a run that his sides undefeated at home between 2002 and 2011 – encompassing his entire spells at Chelsea and Inter Milan.

The streak started while Mourinho was in charge of FC Porto, and after a defeat at the Estádio do Dragão, Mourinho's sides turned the San Siro and Stamford Bridge into fortresses.

All good things have to come to an end, and it was a plucky Sporting Gijon side that ended the run when they beat Real Madrid 1-0 at the Bernabeu.
