Jorginho gets the last laugh after Emi Martinez’s attempts to ‘s***house a save’

Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was up to his old tricks after Chelsea were given a penalty at Villa Park on Sunday night.

The mischievous Argentine has garnered himself a reputation for his spot-kick psychological games.

Whether it’s a penalty which has been awarded during play, or during nail-biting shootouts, he is always the person to trigger the battle of wits from 12 yards.

And he took his gamesmanship to another level when eagle eyed viewers appeared to spot the former Arsenal shot-stopper kicking the penalty spot before Jorginho stepped up to take it.

That behaviour earned him a yellow card, before he continued his attempts to put Jorginho off by pointing in various directions – but it didn't pay off as the Chelsea star confidently stepped up to make it 1-1.

Indeed, the social media world were divided by the 28-year-old pre-penalty actions, with many believing his antics were bordering on the unsporting.

“Emi Martinez jus kicked at the penalty spot got booked then pointed to his right got sent to his right and conceded to J5 (Jorginho)” said one bemused fan on Twitter.

“Martinez is s***housing a save from Jorginho,” added another before Jorginho swept home his third penalty in three games. .

“Love that psychological battle between Emi Martinez and Jorginho.

"Top tier stuff, with Martinez getting a yellow card for his mind games and Jorginho putting it away calmly,” said one admirer who did not have a problem with Martinez’s gamesmanship.

“Emi Martinez easily one of the most hated players of all time. So insufferable,” added another supporter who is not a huge fan of the villa goalkeeper.

Unfortunately for Martinez and Villa, Jorginho was able to hold his nerve, and proceeded to send the keeper the wrong way.

Villa were the side who took the lead, courtesy of a strange own goal from Chelsea defender Reece James.

The Blues levelled the score through Jorginho's penalty before substitute Romelu Lukaku guided a home a wonderful header to turn the game around and give Chelsea a 2-1 lead.

As well as a few first team stars, Villa also came into their tumultuous contest against Thomas Tuchel’s side without manager Steven Gerrard.

The Villa boss was ruled out of the contest having tested positive for Coronavirus just before the Boxing Day clash.
