Jorginho criticises Frank Lampard for taking Chelsea job

Jorginho believes Frank Lampard ‘wasn’t ready’ to become Chelsea manager and feels the 42-year-old ‘skipped a few steps ahead’ in his managerial career in order to take the job at Stamford Bridge.

After a promising start to the campaign, Chelsea’s form dipped over the winter period and Roman Abramovich took the decision to sack Lampard at the end of January after the team registered just one win in five Premier League games.

Lampard also guided Chelsea to the FA Cup final last season but his side were beaten by Arsenal at Wembley.

Lampard began his managerial career at Derby County in May 2018 and just 14 months later he was brought in by Chelsea to replace Maurizio Sarri.

But Jorginho believes Lampard should have secured more managerial experience before taking the hotseat at his former club.

‘Look, I’ll be really sincere here on Lampard,’ Jorginho told ESPN Brasil.

‘I believe, given he was a legend at the club, he skipped some steps necessary for learning before moving to a big club.

‘He came to a club where he is a legend, without having experience at other clubs.

‘I think he came too soon, skipped a few steps ahead and wasn’t ready for a job at this level, to be honest.’

Since Thomas Tuchel replace Lampard, Chelsea have secured 13 wins in 20 games and have put themselves in a strong position to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League.

Tuchel also guided Chelsea past Atletico Madrid and Porto in the Champions League and his side will now play the first leg of their semi-final tie against Real Madrid next Tuesday.
