Arsenal’s January signing Jorginho has broken his silence on leaving Chelsea, admitting that he knew he ‘was no longer part of their plans’.
The Italian completed his shock move to the Emirates for £12million on deadline day after falling out of favour at Chelsea.
Jorginho was set to fall even further down the pecking order when Chelsea broke the British transfer record to sign Enzo Fernandez for £107m from Benfica.
The 31-year-old, who is no stranger to winning trophies, is now hoping to help the Gunners lift their first Premier League title in 19 years.
Speaking for the first time since his move across the capital, Jorginho – who won a Champions League, Europa League, Super Cup and Club World Cup at Chelsea -admitted that Gunners boss Mikel Arteta was one one of the reasons he joined Arsenal.

The Italian revealed that his shock move to the Emirates was completed in less than 48 hours after Arteta called him
‘It’s one of the reasons, surely,’ he told DAZN. ‘He called me and it was all very quick, we made the deal in less than 48 hours.
‘I had spoken to Chelsea and I knew I was no longer part of their plans. I wanted to progress in my career and the Arsenal project suits me.
‘It’s a young team that plays good football and fits my characteristics. I considered every scenario and made the decision.
‘Sometimes you must accept when you are out of a project and that things come to an end.’
Since Jorginho’s arrival in north London, Arsenal have lost to Everton and Man City either side of a draw with Brentford, which saw their lead at the top reduced to just two points – although the Gunners have a game in hand.
That being said, the Italian helped Arsenal come from behind to beat Aston Villa in stoppage time on Saturday in what could be a pivotal three points come the end of the season.
The midfielder’s first-time strike from the edge of the box cannoned off the woodwork and hit Emiliano Martinez in goal to send the away fans wild as Arsenal took a 3-2 lead with seconds remaining.
His team-mate Gabriel Martinelli ensured Arsenal left the West Midlands with all three points as the Brazilian added a fourth on the counter just minutes later.
Despite Jorginho’s successful spell at Chelsea, he revealed the club told him he was no longer in their plans
There had been doubts over Arsenal’s ability to pip Man City to the title this season after the champions beat them 3-1 last Wednesday in a crucial contest.
However, when quizzed on whether the defeat affected Arsenal’s title hopes, Jorginho replied: ‘No, if you look at the game, it was decided in the penalty boxes.
‘You can’t commit certain mistakes against these champions at this level. We made mistakes, and they punished us. After the game, I was confident because we played well.
‘We forced Man City to play long balls and not many teams do that, so it means we did good things. We were disappointed with the result and the mistakes, but we remained calm because we knew we’d made many good things. If we don’t believe in it now, then when?’
