Jordan Henderson in illustrious club with Ozil after Liverpool win

Leeds United v Liverpool: Pictures

Jordan Henderson joined an elite Premier League club during Liverpool’s 6-1 massacre against Leeds United on Monday. The Reds captain was excellent in midfield at Elland Road and provided the assist for Diogo Jota’s second goal of the night.

After an uninspired opening half hour, Liverpool’s ruthless edge returned as Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah scored within minutes to open up a 2-0 lead before half-time.

Luis Sinisterra pounced on a Ibrahima Konate mistake to notch Leeds back into proceedings just moments after the break.

But Jota’s brace, Salah’s second and a late Darwin Nunez strike off the bench inflicted another heavy defeat on the West Yorkshire strugglers.

Henderson registered the 54th Premier League assist of his career to tee up the visitors’ fifth of the game.

And in doing so, the 32-year-old entered an illustrious club featuring some of the best players ever to grace the competition.

Henderson is now level with Eden Hazard, Mesut Ozil, Juan Mata and team-mate Salah on 54 Premier League assists.

He’s just one behind Andrew Robertson’s 55-assist tally, which may come as a surprise to many considering the Scot’s influence under Jurgen Klopp.

However, Henderson is unlikely to catch up to the leading assister in Liverpool’s current ranks, James Milner, who has totalled 87 throughout his long career.

The Anfield giants’ all-time Premier League top assister is, no surprises here, Steven Gerrard, who recorded 92.

One more Henderson assist wouldn’t just see Henderson move level with Robertson. He’d join more Premier League icons on 55, including Paul Scholes and Didier Drogba.

Ryan Giggs boasts the most assists in Premier League history with 162 while cementing his legacy as a Manchester United legend.

Former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas is second in the rankings, producing 111 during his time in England.

Wayne Rooney didn’t just score goals, finishing his Premier League career in third with 103 assists.
