John Terry was quick to respond after Liverpool lost their long unbeaten home record in a shock defeat to Burnley.

The Reds' title defence was dealt a big blow when they were beaten by Ashley Barnes' late penalty at Anfield on Thursday night.

Defeat was their second in three Premier League games, leaving them trailing leaders Manchester United by six points as they bid to equal their fierce rivals on 20 top-flight titles.

And the loss also signalled the end of Liverpool's long-held unbeaten home record in the top-flight, which had stretched back nearly four years.

Going into their clash with Burnley, Jurgen Klopp's side had not lost in their last 68 league games at Anfield – with their last home defeat in April 2017.

It was a record that had underpinned the Reds' recent success, after they followed a second-placed finish two seasons ago by rampaging to last term's domestic crown.

But Liverpool are now winless in their last five top-flight games, having failed to score in their last four.

And after their impressive home record was ended by Burnley, Terry took to Instagram to remind Reds fans that his legendary Chelsea side are still out in front.

The Stamford Bridge side hold the record for the most Premier League home games without defeat – with a hugely impressive run of 86 games between 2004 and 2008.

Terry was a rock in Chelsea's defence throughout that time, which saw the Blues back-to-back titles in 2004-05 and 2005-06.

Posting a picture of a crowned Jose Mourinho, with the club's record represented by blue and white flags on a fortress, Terry questioned whether his former club's record would ever be topped.

He said: "Some record this is, it’s only when you retire and appreciate how good Liverpool have been to even get close to it. Will This Ever Be Beaten?"

It was Liverpool who ended Chelsea's run, and the Reds remain second in the record books with their sequence of 55 wins and 13 draws.

Manchester City are next with 37 games unbeaten between December 2010 and December 2012.

And Manchester United hold the two next longest records – going 36 home games without defeat between December 1998 and December 2000, and 35 without defeat between December 1994 and November 1996.
