John Terry sends message to Thiago Silva after Chelsea's defeat to Villa
John Terry has hailed Thiago Silva following Chelsea’s defeat to Aston Villa on the final day of the Premier league season.
Thomas Tuchel’s side were beaten 2-1 at Villa Park on Sunday but were able to secure a top-four finish after Leicester City’s 4-2 loss at home to Tottenham.
Terry was in Villa’s dugout against his former club as goals from Bertrand Traore and Anwar El Ghazi sealed the win over Chelsea.
After the final whistle, Silva handed his shirt to Terry and the former Chelsea captain paid tribute to the Brazilian’s gesture on Instagram.
On Monday, Terry posted a picture of Silva’s shirt with the caption: ‘What a player this man is. Great to see you mate. Legend’
Silva, meanwhile, had a message for Chelsea fans after they squeezed into a top-four spot: ‘Despite the defeat, we were able to achieve our objectives and end up in the top four. Now it’s time to recover as we are looking forward to playing the most important game of the season. Gratitude to our Lord, God. We remain focused, strong and faithful.’
Terry, meanwhile, has made it clear that he is keen to manage Chelsea in the future.
‘My ambition is very, very clear,’ Terry said in an interview with The Times.
‘There’s an end goal for me and that’s managing Chelsea Football Club. My team will be winning – hopefully – very honest, very organised, very well drilled, very well prepared and with a back four.
‘I look at Lamps [Frank Lampard] and Stevie [Gerrard] and the success they’ve both had. Lamps in his first season at Chelsea, and what Stevie’s done up at Rangers is unbelievable. l probably wasn’t ready to go into coaching then. I am now. But I’m not just going to jump into anything. I’ve turned down two jobs since I’ve been here.
‘Decent-sized clubs. But it’s going to take something special for me to leave here. I’ve got one more year left at Villa. I’m in a privileged position because I’m in no rush. I want to be a No 1 but I’ll get there at some point.’
