Joelinton’s staggering body transformation shows how flop became Newcastle hero

Joelinton has gone from a mega flop to a fan favourite at Newcastle – and it's in large part thanks to his amazing body transformation.

The Brazilian severely struggled after arriving from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim for £40million in 2019. Playing primarily as a striker, he scored just six Premier League goals in his first two seasons.

However, he's looked a man reborn following Eddie Howe's arrival in November 2021. Since then he's shifted into midfield, where he's become a crucial part of the side pushing for Champions League qualification.

And as well as his performances improving tenfold, fans have noticed a significant difference in his physique. Side-by-side shots from four years ago and now make for a sight to behold.

One Magpies fan hailed: "The transformation is unreal." A second commented: "He looks a pure beast now compared to then what a player."

"Starting to think it’s not the same person," joked a third, while a fourth said: "Man’s turned himself into a tank."

A fifth wrote: "If Joelinton was £40M then, hes now £100M+ Although he is not for sale at any price!" And a sixth echoed: "The guy is outrageously good. The turnaround in form under Howe is nothing but remarkable."

After initially failing to make his mark on English football, Joelinton enlisted the help of fitness coach Felipe Lira and analyst Diego Vieira while Steve Bruce was manager, according to The Chronicle.

He and Lira train together for between two and four hours every week, focusing on functional strength exercises to supplement his gym work at Newcastle's training ground – and the results are clear to see.
