Joe Hart made a bizarre gaffe by posting ‘job done’ after Tottenham’s humiliating Europa League exit against Dinamo Zagreb despite watching their heavy defeat from the bench.

Jose Mourinho’s side threw away their two-goal cushion from the first leg as the Croatian side staged a remarkable turnaround on Thursday night by winning 3-0 after extra time to dump Spurs out of the competition.

Goalkeeper Hart was part of the squad that travelled to the Croatian capital and witnessed Spurs’ capitulation first-hand from the bench, but somehow appeared to think that they had progressed.

In a now-deleted post, Hart wrote ‘job done’ on Instagram despite watching Spurs crash out of the Europa League from the bench

After the 3-0 defeat in Zagreb, the former England international wrote on his Instagram story: ‘Job done,’ next to a tick.

The post has since been deleted, but fans were quick to criticise the keeper for the poorly-timed mishap.

Another added: ‘Joe Hart was happy! Maybe this is the kind of attitude Jose has to work with?’

Mislav Orsic netted a hat-trick to fire Zagreb through to the Europa League quarter-finals

One fan joked: ‘Joe Hart hasn’t played for so long that he’s forgotten which team he plays for.’

Tottenham came into the match with a two-goal lead from the first leg but squandered their advantage as Mislav Orsic’s brilliant hat-trick sent Zagreb through to the quarter-finals in a major upset.

Mourinho was furious with his side’s performance and turned on his players by questioning their professionalism after the shock defeat in Croatia.

‘Dinamo’s attitude I believe is humble,’ said Mourinho. ‘It is desire, motivation, it’s pride to prove themselves that they have talent to prove to the world football market that they have quality so they played with a lot of desire.

Fans were quick to criticise goalkeeper Hart on social media for the poorly-timed gaffe

‘I can call it also professionalism. For me professionalism starts in the attitude. You must have attitude every day and every minute of every game. Then more talent or less talent makes a difference but what is never negotiable is attitude and they beat us on attitude.

‘They left sweat, energy, blood. In the end they left even tears of happiness. Very humble and committed. I have to praise them.

‘On the other side, my team. I repeat, my team, they didn’t look like it was playing an important match. If for any one of them it is not important, for me it is.

‘For the respect I have for my career and my job, every match is important. For every Tottenham fan at home every match matters. Another attitude is needed. To say I feel sad is not enough. What I feel is much more than sadness.

‘I can only apologise to the Tottenham supporters. I hope they feel the same way I feel. Today is live or die and in this moment we die. In some other matches I have the same feeling. Until the last day of the season we have to try and do our best.’
