Jesse Lingard’s hint over Man Utd future makes transfer plans clearer

Jesse Lingard has appeared to hint that a permanent move to West Ham might not be on the cards this summer.

The Manchester United-contracted midfielder has enjoyed arguably the best form of his career over the last few months at the London Stadium.

Lingard has gone on to score nine goals, while setting up a further four, prompting talk of a permanent switch to the East End.

However, the 28-year-old admitted that he would be "taking away" those moments he enjoyed while at West Ham, perhaps hinting that he won't be a Hammer for much longer.

When asked if he will look back positively on his time at West Ham, Lingard told the club's official website: "Yes, 100 per cent.

"It’s been great, I’ve made a lot of new people and made a countless number of friends, so to take on this challenge has been amazing and to take away the memories will be special.

"I think just obviously playing week-in week-out, the lads have been brilliant, the staff have been brilliant and they’ve put confidence in me to play and do well.

"I was already ready to play from many months ago so to play the first game at Villa seems a lifetime ago now that we’re near the end of the season, but it’s been a brilliant experience and I’ll take away so many memories."

While on his surge in form, he added: "It’s just about consistency and performing at a high level week-in, week-out, which I’ve been trying to do and which I’ve been doing over these past few months and hopefully now it’s a big push towards the end of the season."

West Ham can still secure a place in Europe with a result against Southampton on Sunday, with their current sixth place standing enough to book them a place in the Europa League.
