Jesse Lingards brother slams West Ham fans in surprising spat over Man Utd move
Jessie Lingard’s brother has hit back at West Ham fans on social media for claiming they do not need the Manchester United attacker.
The Englishman recaptured his form by scoring nine and assisting five during his half-a-season-long loan spell with the Hammers in 2020/21, where he helped the side secure a sixth place finish.
Lingard was linked with a permanent move to east London at the end of the season but ended up staying put at Man United to fight for his place at his boyhood club.
But that has not paid off as of yet with Lingard having played just 154 minutes of football and scoring twice this campaign.
And with West Ham exceeding all expectations once again this season and currently third in the Premier League, fans have allegedly made their feelings known about not needing the 28-year-old to return.
That has prompted Lingard’s brother Louie Scott to come to his defence, having hinted that the midfielder may no longer consider east London as a destination due to the flack he has received online.
Commenting on a West Ham fan page’s post on Instagram, Louie said: "From the comments I can see that most would believe use don’t need him and wouldn’t even start.
"Exact same was said before he last came. Staggering to see that many don’t actually want him either. Firmly noted."
Do you think West Ham should still sign Jesse Lingard? Let us know in the comments section.
Despite staying at Old Trafford in the summer, Lingard continues to be linked with a move to West Ham as well as Newcastle, who need players of his calibre if they are to avoid relegation this season.
Meanwhile, the Hammers’ Algerian playmaker Said Benrahma has re-discovered his Brentford form of late and has done a stellar job of making Lingard’s role his own.
Nevertheless, Irons boss David Moyes may feel the need to add some much-needed depth and pace to his squad, particularly due to Benrahma reporting for Africa Cup of Nations duty from early January until potentially February.
