Rooney denied speculation last week that DC United were on the brink of signing Lingard, who is a free agent after leaving Nottingham Forest.
Lingard was Rooney’s United team-mate for three years but Rooney said he had no intention of taking the midfielder to the east coast.
Inter Miami have already signed Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets this summer, while Jordi Alba and Sergio Ramos have also been linked with moves.
As he’s a free agent, Lingard would not take a designated player spot in Florida.
And the midfielder has fueled speculation that he’s set for a move to David Beckham’s club by sharing a video of him training at the club’s DRV PNK facility.
With so many players moving to Saudi Arabia, Lingard has also been linked with a move to the middle-east.
The 30-year-old admits he would consider a move to Riyadh.
‘I’m considering all options,’ Lingard told Sky Sports recently.
‘I’ve never ruled out any team or club out, so for me it’s just picking the right team and it’s got to be right for me.
‘I just want to play football at the end of the day and that’s all I want to do.’
