Jesse Lingard ‘let himself down’ after scoring Man Utd winner says Michael Owen
Michael Owen says Jesse Lingard "let himself down" after scoring the winning goal for Manchester United against his former club West Ham.
The England forward scored a spectacular goal with just minutes remaining of their Premier League meeting at the London Stadium on Sunday, a ground which he called home for six months of last season.
The 28-year-old ran off to celebrate but quickly raised his hands to acknowledge his time at the club – and that hasn't gone down well with Owen.
Owen famously joined United after spells with Newcastle and Real Madrid, which came after he made his name as a hero at Anfield to Liverpool supporters.
Owen told Premier League Productions: "The finish is absolutely sublime. The only thing that is poor about the whole scenario is that he doesn’t celebrate.
"I can’t believe players don’t celebrate when they score a goal against their old club, he was only there two minutes.
"If he didn’t want to score, if he’s not that happy don’t pull the trigger, pass the ball, if that’s the case.
"It’s the only thing that lets him down there, because everything else is absolutely spectacular."

The winger scored nine goals and created another five for his team-mates across just 16 league appearances for the Hammers, playing a big part in their Europa League qualification.
Lingard told MUTV of his muted celebration: "They supported me in the loan spell and gave me a great reception, so it was only right to pay them back.
"It was a great reception from the West Ham fans. I had a brilliant time here, but I had to do my bit."
Having been linked with a move back to London on a permanent deal in the summer, Lingard could now enter talks over a new contract with United if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has his way.
He said before the strike against West Ham: “Jesse has come back into us after a great spell at West Ham.
"He’s shown his qualities and is back in the England squad, he scored goals for England and we really want to see the best of Jesse this season.
"We support him and want to keep him here with us. He’s a red through and through.”
