Jay-Z is reportedly plotting a stunning bid to take over Tottenham Hotspur.

That is if Spurs’ current billionaire owner Joe Lewis is convicted of insider trading, having been indicted in New York on 16 counts of security fraud and three counts of conspiracy.

Lewis, 86, pleaded not guilty to the charges on Wednesday before being granted bail as Tottenham were plunged into chaos ahead of the upcoming 2023/24 season.

But Lewis would be forced to give up ownership of the north London club if found guilty. And that has prompted Jay-Z, real name Shawn Carter, to line up an incredible offer for Spurs.

Express Sport US report that one of the Brooklyn-born rapper’s associates said: “More than a few of the very top clubs there – like Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea – are now under US ownership and Jay would jump at the chance of a controlling interest at board level somewhere with the global reach of Spurs.

“It remains to be seen whether Mr Lewis will walk away free. If he doesn’t, Jay has said he wants to be in a position to move quickly if he feels the price is right. He believes this is achievable, especially with the backing of fellow investors.”

Tottenham's estimated value is just over £2billion. Meanwhile, the American rapper and business mogul, 53, reportedly has a personal net worth of £1.95bn, with his pop-sensation wife Beyoncé worth an additional £420m.

The reported interest comes despite Jay-Z previously revealing his favourite football team to be Arsenal – Spurs’ bitter rivals – having expressed an interest in becoming a major investor in the Gunners 13 years ago.

"I don’t know a lot about the business of soccer, but in the future if the right opportunity presented itself, then who knows?,” Jay-Z said. “I am a businessman, and I will always look at an opportunity, and if it feels right great."

He also told Arsenal Magazine in 2010: "The press started reporting that I was a Manchester City fan, I am really glad all that has been cleared up and that everybody in the UK knows that I am an Arsenal fan.

“If there are [any fans in the Arsenal squad] they would be more than welcome to come to my next concert when I am over in London. They can come and see me do my work, and then I will come and see them do their work."
