Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki 'REJECTED a £5m Man United move'

Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki ‘REJECTED a £5m Manchester United move to prioritise playing time ahead of the Paris Olympics’

  • Manchester United made a £5million bid for Japan goalkeeper Zion suzuki
  • But the 20-year-old has rejected the move in favour of more playing time
  • United are also keen on Fenerbahce’s Turkey international Altay Bayindir.

Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki has turned down a move to Manchester United, according to a report.

United have already paid out £43m for Andre Onana but with Dean Henderson due to join Nottingham Forest and Luton Town offering an opportunity for 37-year-old Tom Heaton to start regularly, the club have been looking at options to keep competition for places strong.

The Red Devils have been scouting 20-year-old Urawa Red Diamonds stopper Suzuki since 2017 and have made their move, according to Japanese outlet Sponichi.

However, the report states that the move will not happen this summer despite the player being positively ‘shaken’ by United’s interest.

Suzuki is believed to be prioritising playing time with the Japanese side as the Paris Olympics is one year away.

Suzuki has played for Japan at every youth level and made first senior appearance this month

Manchester United are considering a move for Turkey international goalkeeper Atlay Bayindir

United are believed to have made a formal offer of £5m for Suzuki, a fee that would have made him the most expensive signing in the history of the J League.

Suzuki has represented Japan at every youth level and made his first senior appearance against Hong Kong last week.

A move to United would have seen him limited to playing in cup competitions as a second choice or even third choice given that United are also keen on Fenerbahce’s Turkey international Altay Bayindir.

Bayindir would cost around £5m but the question for the 25-year-old is whether he can get more regular football elsewhere with the likes of Ajax interested.

Fenerbahce are expecting his departure as they have been discussing Croatia number one Dominik Livakovic.
