Jamie Carragher’s Chelsea joke leaves Kate Abdo and Micah Richards cracking up

Jamie Carragher laughed Chelsea owner Todd Boehly might be considering buying the entire Borussia Dortmund team.

The Bundesliga giants drew first blood in their Champions League Round of 16 clash at the Signal Iduna Park. Despite a flurry of chances in both halves, Karim Adeyemi’s breakaway goal was enough to secure a vital 1-0 victory for Edin Terzic’s side.

Fortunately for Graham Potter’s side, they are still firmly in the tie, heading into the second leg at Stamford Bridge on March 7. And, Carragher took the opportunity to joke Boehly may be considering a move for the entire Dortmund squad, despite spending close to £600million in his first eight months at the club.

“It’s interesting you say that, when you see that full squad there, it’s just come through on social media Todd Boehly has put a bid in for the whole squad of Dortmund,” Carragher said on CBS’s coverage of the Champions League.

And the tongue in cheek joke left co-pundit Micah Richards and host Kate Abdo giggling away as they watched the Dortmund players salute their fans in the iconic ‘Yellow Wall’ stand.

But despite the jubilant celebrations of the Dortmund players and supporters, Richards insisted the tie is far from over. “It’s not over yet,” Richards quickly replied. “Chelsea had around 15 shots in that second half.

“Going to Stamford Bridge is going to be tough. When you look at the chances they had in the first and second half, at Stamford Bridge, one of them is probably going to go in.

“I still think Chelsea will go through in this tie.” It was an extremely frustrating evening for the Blues who may have even secured their progression into the quarter-finals if their finishing was better. “It’s frustrating to lose because I thought we played quite well,’ Chelsea forward Kai Havertz said.

“We came here to win the game, or at least draw, but in the end we have lost and it’s just really frustrating for us. Their goal was a mistake from us and we knew that Adeyemi is a fast player, especially on counter-attacks. So that was disappointing.

“We created plenty of chances and on another day, we could have scored a couple of goals and the tie would look so different. I don’t think we should be too unhappy with our performance because we created the opportunities, but it’s just frustrating that we couldn’t take any of them. We have to look at that and try to improve on that front.”
