Sir Alex Ferguson’s damning reaction to Liverpool’s Old Trafford annihilation was enjoyed by Jamie Carragher. Manchester United were thrashed 5-0 at home and were fortunate to not concede more after their bitterest rivals relented from attacking with intent in the final stages.
Ferguson has witnessed humiliating defeats both in the hot seat and in the stands at Old Trafford.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men were taken apart 6-1 by Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham just over a year ago.
But an exasperated puff of the cheeks as the Sky Sports camera panned to the managerial icon showed that this was one of United’s darkest days.
Ferguson was spotted looking disgusted in his usual seat in the stands after Mohamed Salah had added a fifth five minutes after the break.
At that point, Liverpool looked like they would continue running riot and plunder more goals.
In contrast, Liverpool icon Kenny Daglish could not hide his delight after witnessing the Anfield club’s biggest win over the Red Devils since 1925.

Buoyant Carragher trolled Ferguson by reposting a Sky Sports video on Instagram, which shows the legendary Scot watching on in disgust.
Solskjaer is under incredible scrutiny as United boss after the humiliation and Caragher thinks the Norwegian simply cannot compete with the Premier League’s elite coaches.
“I wasn’t saying that on Monday in a disrespectful way, I feel for Ole – that will be the darkest day in his career,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“I don’t want to get involved in a slanging match, I know Ole said something back and rightly so.
“I’m not comfortable saying someone should be sacked – but we are comfortable saying Fred is not good enough or Scott McTominay is not good enough so I do not feel too bad saying Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not good enough.
“Manchester United need a better manager. Ole is not a manager for Manchester United.
“He’s done really well but you need someone to take them to the next level.
“Unfortunately, Solskjaer is not Jurgen Klopp, Pep Guardiola or Thomas Tuchel. It’s staring you in the face.”
While Carragher is adamant United need a managerial change, fellow Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville believes the club will remain patient with Solskjaer.
“If this was in the immediate post-Sir Alex Ferguson era, Ole would be under massive pressure tonight,” Neville said.
“But I think the club will hold their nerve. I don’t think they have planned for a new manager this season. I think they will sit with him until the end of the season.
“There will be a massive outcry from fans and media that Ole should be sacked and I can understand that after that game.
“It was a monstrously bad day and it takes some recovery from.”
