Jamie Carragher spots exact moment Arsenal boss Arteta changed game vs Chelsea

Jamie Carragher has pinpointed the exact moment Mikel Arteta sparked Arsenal's comeback against Chelsea on Saturday evening.

Arsenal had been below par against the Blues, and Mauricio Pochettino's side were two goals to the good deep into the second half. Speaking on Monday Night Football, Carragher pointed out where it all unravelled for the Blues: "I noticed something that Mikel Arteta did from the side of the pitch.

"Arsenal made substations throughout the game, but they didn't change their structure." Carragher pointed out that Arsenal had a midfield three of Emile Smith Rowe, Declan Rice and Kai Havertz.

However, Arteta decided a change was needed, and he pointed out the moment he waved Havertz forwards – as Smith Rowe dropped back alongside Rice.

Carragher continued: "Mikel Arteta is saying 'we can't play through this team, we've had no joy, we've got to do something different. So what do they do? They go direct.

The Sky Sports pundit then played the footage, where a more advanced Havertz wins the ball in the air, keeping it alive, allowing Arsenal to equalise through Leandro Trossard.

Speaking after the game, Arteta hailed his team's character: "We didn’t play with enough purpose and clarity in the first half but the way we reacted was phenomenal.

"I have no doubt about our character. I could see at half-time that we knew we had to do much better. I love that about the team. This is who we are."
