Jamie Carragher has claimed we’re seeing the ‘real Raheem Sterling in a Chelsea shirt’ after the forward scored the opening goal during Chelsea’s game against Luton and followed that up with another after half-time.
The 28-year-old winger weaved his way through the Luton defence in to the box and polished off a superb winding run, on his weaker foot no less, with an excellent strike into the bottom left-side of the goal.
It was a stunning piece of play from the England winger, with Jamie Carragher on commentary for Sky Sports, lauding Sterling, saying: ‘Dancing feet from Raheem Sterling. He looked back to his best last week and this is more evidence of that.
‘We’re now seeing the real Raheem Sterling now in a Chelsea shirt.’
He followed that up with another well-taken finish after half-time, receiving the ball from Malo Gusto inside the penalty area and placed it once again into the bottom corner of the goal.

Before the match Carragher lumped praise on the former Liverpool and Manchester City star, who struggled to find the back of the net last season, claiming that his performance during the Blues loss to West Ham was excellent.
‘It’s always been a little bit of a criticism of Raheem actually that he’s not a great finisher and doesn’t strike the ball really well but when you look at his time at Manchester City I think there was a stat at the time when he left the club that there was only Lionel Messi in a pep Guardiola team than Raheem sterling,’ the former Liverpool defender told Sky Sports.
‘I think he’s been a great premier league player. Fantastic at Liverpool – got that big move to city. And not every player delivers at a big club when they go for a big price, but he did.
‘He got all the trophies all the goal and a couple of years ago he was England’s best player in the European Championship and he had a great tournament, but the last season was almost a nothing season at all for him really. And I just think he’s got the bit between his teeth really.
‘He was outstanding against Liverpool and his performance level went up again, against West Ham, and you think of Mauricio Pochettino coming up against Raheem when he was manager of Tottenham and he was making those penetrating runs but I want to see more of it. He’s a fantastic player and there’s more to come.’
At half-time, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink lauded the forward for his perseverance in getting the goal.
‘He’s been waiting for this for a while. This goal for me is pure determination if you see he gets the ball here he’s very direct, goes in and out and fires it in with his left foot,’ the former Chelsea striker said.
‘It’s pure determination from me with skill, very direct and for once he finishes it off with a shot instead of checking back and back again. But this time he finishes off on his weaker side and it’s a brilliant finish.’
