Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher was left red-faced after being rejected by Arsenal star Takehiro Tomiyasu as he tried to bring him in for an interview. Tomiyasu has become a key player for the Gunners since moving to the Premier League side from Bologna on transfer deadline day.

He has started every game Arsenal have played in the top-flight since arriving at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners are now unbeaten in six league games following Friday night’s win over Aston Villa, with Tomiyasu starting them all.

They have kept three clean sheets and conceded just four goals as Mikel Arteta has finally been able to kickstart their season.

Their impressive form continued at the Emirates on Friday when Dean Smith’s Villa side travelled to the capital.

Tomiyasu once again started the game at right-back, playing all 90 minutes of what was a comfortable 3-1 win for his side.

Thomas Partey opened the scoring after 23 minutes when he headed Emile Smith Rowe’s corner past Emiliano Martinez.

The hosts doubled their lead deep into first-half added time when referee Craig Pawson awarded a penalty for Matt Targett’s challenge on Alexandre Lacazette following a long VAR check.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang stepped up, with Martinez saving the spot-kick before the striker tucked in the rebound.

Smith Rowe made sure of the three points 11 minutes into the second-half with an excellent individual goal, before Jacob Ramsey scored a stunning consolation for the visitors.

Tomiyasu played the entirety of the Premier League clash, with Arsenal moving up to ninth in the table thanks to the win.

The Japanese defender was one of the players selected to do the round of post-match interviews with the broadcasters.

As part of their Friday Night Football programme, Sky Sports were broadcasting live from pitchside at the Emirates.

Carragher, Gary Neville and Kelly Cates were conducting their post-match analysis by the touchline when Tomiyasu walked past.

The Liverpool legend was in the middle of answering a question that Cates had asked when he stopped to offer Tomiyasu his microphone.

Carragher looked at the defender and gestured towards the Sky Sports team in a bid to bring Tomiyasu in for an interview.

But he was left red-faced as the Arsenal star rejected the offer and carried on walking after smiling and talking briefly to Carragher.

The incident amused both Cates and Neville, with the former saying: “We’re not part of this commitment, he doesn’t have to talk to us.”
