Jamie Carragher fires back at Gary Lineker with MOTD dig over criticism of MNF
Jamie Carragher has fired back at Gary Lineker with a Match of the Day dig following his criticism of Monday Night Football.
Lineker had pointed out the omission of Lionel Messi's Copa America victory from a graphic detailing the career honours of Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo during a debate on the pair.
Carragher and Gary Neville got into a heated discussion as to which of the two legendary forwards was the greatest player of all time.
The former Liverpool then hit back at Lineker on Tuesday morning after the Match of the Day presenter pointed out that the graphic only included three of Messi's four Champions League wins.
Lineker tweeted a picture of the graphic with the caption: "To be fair, it's such a long time since Messi led Argentina to victory in Copa America, they're entitled to forget it."
Messi won his first major international trophy in July as he was named player of the tournament after top scoring as well for Argentina.
Both the 2016 Euros and the 2019 UEFA Nations League were counted as international honours for Ronaldo, drawing further criticism on social media.
Lineker then pointed out in a follow up tweet that Messi was only listed as winning three Champions League titles instead of four.

In response, Carragher explained the omittance of the 2006 Champions League from Messi's honours list, as the then 19-year-old did not feature from the round of 16 onwards due to injury.
"We made a mistake on a graphic over Messi's international honours," responded Carragher in a reply to Lineker's tweet.
"It happens a lot on MOTD. Check Messi's record in the CL, he didn't play 1 min after 1st KO round, so we counted it as 3.
"We don't have autocue on MNF so I'm sure you'd also make a mistake now and again."
Lineker stoked the fire by replying by saying: "Yes, we do, and when they happen, they're quite rightly pointed out."
This drew another response from Carragher, who wrote: "Not by anyone on MNF, as we realise it's not easy. I know you spend the majority of your time on Twitter but just look after MOTD & we'll do the same on MNF.
"If you ever want to come on with no autocue you're welcome."
This got another reply from Lineker, with the former England striker writing: "You seem to be picking fights with everybody these days. I hope you're alright, Jamie."
Carragher came back once again as he said: "I'm fine Gary, just sticking up for our stats guy. Appreciate your concern."
