James Milner’s epic career-changing warning to Jordan Henderson in West Ham game
Jordan Henderson has been warned that he could be set for a career change after he produced another solid display at centre-half against West Ham.
The Liverpool skipper was a rock at the back as the Reds picked up a vital victory at the London Stadium and moved to within four points of Man City.
Jurgen Klopp has relied on Henderson more than most this season in the absence of Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez at the heart of the defence.
Injuries have forced the England midfielder to deputise on their behalf, but it's a challenge he's relished alongside different defensive partners.
Klopp hinted in his post-match interview that he isn't the only one who has been impressed by Henderson's adaptability either.
He said: "Milli [Milner] shouted at Hendo ‘you’d better be careful, if you play like this you’ll play there for the rest of your career."
The Reds ran out comfortable 3-1 winners in east London with a brace from Mohamed Salah and one from Georginio Wijnaldum.
Talking about the win, the Liverpool managed continued: "It was a great game, a very professional game, very controlled against usually a flying side.
"We didn't create enough in the first half. We made little adjustments at half-time and it paid off. We scored three unbelievable goals."
Despite the flattering scoreline, the Hammers held their own until the 57th minute, and Klopp acknowledged that he was forced into changes in order to find the breakthrough.
"In the first half we had three midfielders on the other side of the ball so Xherdan Shaqiri had to pass backwards.
"We wanted Divock Origi more in the centre. We played a double 10 then with Thiago and Shaqiri. James Milner is fine but showed signs of hamstring so we chose the right moment to bring him off.
Liverpool's 3-1 victory was their second on the road in the space of four days. It keeps them in touch with leaders Man City at the top of the table.
