Manchester United’s interest in Jadon Sancho has been well-documented in recent years. And things have now taken a twist, with reports claiming the player’s camp are more confident than ever about a potential move to Old Trafford this summer. The Borussia Dortmund star has recovered from a stuttering start to the campaign to step up, recently propelling them to DFB-Pokal glory.

Manchester United have long admired Sancho.

Interest actually dates back to Jose Mourinho’s time in charge, with the Portuguese earmarking the Borussia Dortmund star as a target prior to his departure.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has tried to secure Sancho’s signing in both 2019 and 2020 in the time since but, both times, has missed out.

Now, however, the Red Devils are primed to try again.

United have shelved interest in Erling Haaland and Harry Kane after tying Edinson Cavani down to a new contract.

And they may not add to their squad at centre-back after Eric Bailly signed a new contract with the club.

United, consequently, are set to try and sign Sancho again – with Solskjaer believing he’d be perfect alongside the likes of Cavani, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Bruno Fernandes in attack.

And Eurosport says Sancho’s camp are “more confident than ever” a deal will go ahead at the end of the season.

The 21-year-old initially struggled at the start of the campaign, appearing to be distracted by talk of a potential move away from the Westfalenstadion.

But he’s since stepped up, rediscovering his mojo and recently propelling the German giants to the DFB-Pokal trophy.

Sancho has 14 goals and 18 assists to his name from 34 outings across all competitions but, while United want him, they’ll need to bid big.

Dortmund no longer wants £108 million for their prized asset, instead setting their valuation at around the £85m mark.

Yet United still feel that’s too high, with the Red Devils wary of shattering any transfer records while the coronavirus crisis remains ongoing.

If they did meet Dortmund’s asking price, Sancho would become their second most expensive signing of all time.

Their record recruit remains Paul Pogba, who cost them a substantial £89m upon returning from Juventus back in the summer transfer window of 2016.

Next on the list is Harry Maguire, with United paying £80m to snap him up from Leicester in 2019.

And United’s third most expensive signing is Romelu Lukaku, with the club paying Everton £75m for him in 2017.

Gary Neville recently opened up on Sancho, expressing a belief the Dortmund star would join and that Solskjaer would no longer push for Haaland’s arrival.

He told Sky Sports: “I think if you look at the policy over the last couple of years at Manchester United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, I don’t think they will sign another striker.

“I haven’t got the contacts on the inside I used to have so that’s my assumption because they’ve been desperate for Sancho.

“I’m looking at it now and I’m thinking: I think Sancho comes in and I think you’ve got Sancho that will play on that right-hand side. You’ve got the backup of Greenwood on that side.

“Up front, you’ve got Cavani and Greenwood, they’ll want Greenwood to come through because I think he’s outstanding.

“On the left, you’ve got Rashford and Martial and then you’ve got Pogba potentially can fit in there if he’s not in midfield.

“If you sign Kane or (Erling) Haaland as well, I don’t think that works for Manchester United in the way they’ve recruited in the past few years.

“I think it’s Sancho and I think that’s their business done.”
